One of the most vulnerable section of society in Assam are women. Women and girls from traditional farming families are being forced to find employment as their dependence on agriculture is being reduced due to flooding and soil erosion.
Recognising the needs of local women of Guwahati, the vocational training centres of HOPE worldwide designed programmes so that they could be benefitted. Jute which is cultivated extensively in Assam is used to create various popular handicraft items. Women at the centre are taught to weave jute and learn to create many such items. They are also given training in tailoring. Thus the women are able to avail the opportunity to develop their potential skill and enable themselves to earn their living in dignity. Since we started operating in Guwahati we have trained 281 women till now. Out of them many have started to earn from home through sewing and by making flowers, bags etc.
